Conclusions of the Macedonian Parliament session held on 16th/17th March 2001

The Macedonian Parliament on the session held on 16th and 17th March, 2001, discussing under the Information of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on the current safety situation in the Republic of Macedonia, brought the following
CONCLUSIONS
1. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia decided that the security situation in the country is getting worse as a result of the armed activities of the armed extremist groups. This brings in question the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Macedonia.
2. The authorities of the Republic of Macedonia, the Parliament, the Government and the defense structures are still following the situation and intend to take appropriate measures to keep the peace and stability in the country and the safety of all citizens. In accordance with the current situation, these authorities will take urgent and efficient measures to prevent the further escalation of the events.
3. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia appeals to all international organizations to continue with the unreserved support to the Republic of Macedonia to maintain the countrys stability, territorial integrity and sovereignty and to, in this name, give the necessary aid without the presence of military forces from the neighboring countries on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
4. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia calls all political parties to avoid all destructive scenarios and to focus their activities for the states benefit, for peace, stability and democracy in opposition to violence and ethnic hatred. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia condemns the statements of support to violence, evaluating that this does not contribute to the stabilization and normalization of the situation in the country.
5. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia appeals for increased presence and greater engagement of the KFOR forces along the entire Northern border which will significantly contribute to the complete security of the border, all in the interest of the stability of the Republic of Macedonia and the region.
6. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia calls all citizens of the Republic of Macedonia not to leave their homes, not to believe the disinformation that their lives and properties are endangered and confront the pressures of armed groups that use the means of threat and promises of bloody political success for enrolment of Macedonian citizens.
7. The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia will immediately intensify a broader political dialogue throughout the system institutions with the relevant political subjects in the country to find common language as a means for the solving of all open issues in the Republic of Macedonia.
8. These Conclusions are going to be submitted to the President of the Republic of Macedonia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
